Sine’s Thermal Check for Temperature Recording

Have you ever seen any of the Predator movies?

If so, you probably noticed how the Predators could ‘see’ the heat bodies emit. Well, they can do it because they have thermal vision.

Thermal imaging makes pictures from heat, also called infrared or thermal energy, but they also detect more than just heat. They see tiny differences in heat and display them as shades or with different colours so we can spot differences quickly.

But what is thermal imaging and how it can help people protect against COVID-19?

We’re about to dive deep into the subject, but let’s start with some context.

What is thermal imaging?

Thermal imaging captures and creates an image of an object using infrared radiation emitted from the object. The image the camera creates represents the temperature of the object.

Thermal imaging cameras effectively translate heat; that is, thermal energy, into visible light to analyze people and their surroundings.

This makes thermal imaging very versatile because all living things and mechanical equipment give out heat, which makes thermal imaging a precise tool to detect differences in temperature.

How can thermal cameras help with visitor management and protecting the workplace from COVID-19?

Thermal imaging doesn’t require bulky equipment. In fact, it can be a very compact and efficient technology.

Thermal cameras help you evaluate heat sources and analyze environmental conditions, which makes them useful for COVID-19 detection in the workplace.

Since fever is a signature symptom of COVID-19 and many businesses, workplaces, and aged care facilities are using temperature checkpoints as a key tool to prevent people with the virus from spreading it within your workplace or facility.

For instance, now, companies like Amazon and Whole Foods are using infrared cameras on workers in warehouses, and both companies say that temperature checks have detected workers with fevers who in some cases later tested positive for COVID-19.

Benefits of thermal imaging for visitor management

Accurate and fast

Thermal imaging surveys can quickly scan and measure the temperature and distribution of visitors and contractors, helping you check the temperature of hundreds of visitors every day so you can make quick, accurate decisions.

100% non-invasive

Thermal imaging cameras don’t touch or bother your visitors in any way. This passive and non-invasive approach ensures that your front desk professionals can maintain a safe distance from visitors, minimizing the spread of COVID-19.

Quick to implement

Integrating thermal imaging to your visitor management system is quick, simple, and very cost-effective.

The Sine + Flir integration

Sine has partnered with FLIR, a best of breed temperature scanning provider to integrate thermal imaging results into the check in flow.

Thermal imaging strengthens your visitor management, letting you see what your eyes can’t. Thermal cameras can help companies of all kinds protect their worksites and facilities against the virus or any other potential threats.

How does it work?

Using FLIR, visitors, workers and staff can be screened with thermal imaging cameras. Then, the temperate results are returned to Sine and actions are taken for flagged entrants with results exceeding an agreed threshold.

Pre-screen visitors

Sine Workflows allows you to have full visitor, employee and contractor pre-screening, this means that you can gain important information from a person before they arrive on site.

Much like setting up a check-in form, you can set up a new workflow with the questions from the ‘Upgrade Your Check-in Forms’ section and the downloadable COVID-19 guidance sheet.

Once created, you can manually send it to anyone who will be visiting your site or activate geofencing for automatic distribution when someone enters your site’s geofence.

Send a workflow

With the nature of how contagious COVID-19 is, it’s essential that the pre-screening of visitors and contractors happens before they arrive on site.

After setting up the COVID-19 pre-screening workflow form, you can embed it within an invite and require everyone visiting your site to complete it before checking in.

Once created, the visitor will get the invite with a note informing them that they need to complete the pre-registration forms in order to gain access to the worksite.

Check-in and check temperature

Once your pre-approved visitors arrive on site, it’s time to put the thermal cams to fair use.

Using our thermal scanning feature, you can give an extra layer of protection to your site in case one of your workers or visitors is giving you false information about themselves. In the event that a visitor has an elevated temperature, you will be notified. You will be able to enact your on-site visitor screening response.

But if you’re more of a visual learner, check our infographic for a quick overview of the process.

By implementing thermal imaging, companies can create a 360º COVID-19 protected check-in for all of their visitors, employees and contractors.
